I, Gail Mardfin, grew up in Connecticut, attended Skidmore College and graduated from Trinity College in Hartford. After moving to New Jersey in 1975, I earned a master’s in studio art from Montclair University. I was head of the art department at Purnell School in Pottersville for many years, teaching a myriad of art courses, before founding PLP Graphic Design Services in 1996, where I am the principal designer. I now divide my creative time between “pushing paint and pushing pixels.” I have a studio in my home in Bernardsville, NJ and in Lakewood, PA.
I'm a co-coordinator of ARTsee (Bernardsville-Basking Ridge Artists), and member of Myhelan Artists’ Network, and other regional art organizations. I serve on the Board of the Center for Spiritual Living Morristown and I am also the loving parent of two adult children living creative lives of their own. For those who feel they must pigeonhole an artist’s “style” well, sorry. I taught ALL mediums of art for many years and there are so many things I love to do, I choose not to limit myself! I've been moving bits of paper and paint around, assembling collages and working in mixed media, for 40 years or more. I've also enjoyed taking pictures since I got my first 35mm back in 1975. And after being married to a painter and teaching painting, I'm finally a painter myself. My long-time affinity for outlines seems to have come forth in my latest pleasure, creating stylized acrylic paintings of subject matters that make you feel good, which I've been doing since about 2002. The link between all these approaches is that I have FUN doing them. My personal aspiration is to live each day with awareness and joy. Showing up in the world as an artist helps fulfill this intent. |
